2010 JJO BANDCAMP!!!!!!!

The inauguration of my first rock and roll blog should start on a high note. My blogs will mainly consist of concerts reviews, album reviews and all other things ROCK! First off I feel like I should try introducing myself. My name is Billy Tewes, im 20 years old (soon to be 21 as of November 7th!) and I live in a pretty damn boring city of Muskego, WI which is about 20 minutes outside of downtown Milwaukee. I grew up to a fairly happy childhood where I stole my dads Metallica, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Dokken and whatever other type of rock cd I could get my hands on and jam out with my plastic guitar. Sounds retarded but thats how the story goes haha.

Anyway basically music is my absolute passion. I wish I could have time and patience to pick up an instrument but lately it seems like I just don't have the interest or drive. Listening wise I love all sorts of rock, hard rock, heavy metal and any other sub genres that these main groups spawn off. Bands I would call my favorite would be Seether, Sevendust, Slipknot, Anew Revolution Godsmack, Disturbed, Alice in Chains, As I Lay Dying, Rammstein, Pantera, Dope, Nonpoint, Cold, Mushroomhead, KoRn, Black Label Society, Fear Factory, Alterbridge, Stone Sour, etc. etc. you get my drift. I have over 300 artists in my music collection and id bore everyone to death if I listed them all (that is of course if anyone ever reads this).
I would say on a good year I attend over 10 concerts a year. Its a small cost for a great time and ive even made some friends (and enemies haha) at these shows. The band Ive seen the most would be Seether with 9 total shows, 8 of which actually happened but we wont go there.

So speaking of concerts, the most recent show I attended was WJJO's 2010 Bandcamp Festival. Bandcamp is a festival at Willow Island in Maidson, WI of about 10-14 bands that happens the middle of August every year since 2004. Unfortunately for me the first time I ever went to one of these Bandcamps would be this year! Bandcamp has seen some pretty notorious artists like Mudvayne, Black Label Society, Sevendust Dimebag Darrell Abbott and Vinnie Paul Abbott's Damageplan, Dope, Drowning Pool, Stone Sour, Seether, Nonpoint and Lacuna Coil to name a few. This years festival included these bands:

2010 Bandcamp LineupMainstage:

Godsmack
BuckcherrySevendust
Dope
Seasons After
Black SunshineSilence Is Broken

Second Sage:Anew Revolution
Soil (with new singer)Janus
2cents
Shaman's Harvest
Team Cypergeist

My buddy Jim and I got to the fest which cost roughly around 50 bones to see 13 bands. The first band we saw which we had planned to see was 2Cents on the second stage but ended up also catching the last part of Seasons After's set which was awesome.

2Cents was great as expected and even played a half cover of Pantera's "Strength Beyond Strength". They're always full of energy and are also pretty hilarious too. We had to quickly run to the mainstage as there is little time between sets (unless you are skipping buckcherry to see a far superior band on the side stage but I'll get to that later).

Dope is a pretty awesome band. They have a lot of haters because people think they are just a lame nu metal band with nothing to offer to society. Besides moshpits that breed broken noses and split heads from people who are "hard asses". So Dope played the mainstage and rolled out a pretty dank set. If you know anything about Dope, you know that they bring the violence. I saw more blood at bandcamp this year than ive ever seen at a concert before and Ive seen some crazy shit in my short time on this earth. To sum it all up dope was great they played fan favorites like Die Mother Fucker Die, Bring it On and their cover of you spin me as well as some new shit with Violence as well as their cover of Billy Idol's REBEL YELL!

Next up we stuck it out and missed Janus' set to get a great spot for my personal favorite the almighty SEVENDUST! Sevendust played an amazing set! We had a great group of people who didnt like to kill each other moshing but still liked to move and jump around a lot. Sevendust opened with Splinter and played classics such as Face to Face, Enemy, Pieces, Suffocate and BLACK which I've never seen them play. 7D busted out a few more new ones with Forever Dead and Unraveling which are their singles off of their 2010 release Cold Day Memory. All in all Id have to say it was the best sevendust show I've seen (only saw them one other time at the rave) and they really stole the show.

Next up we went to get some water and decided to see Soil which was stupid because their new singer is boring and lame. He's a fill in and I guess for a fill in he wasnt terrible but if hes going to sing the way he did, you might as well have me up there!

We ended up staying at that stage because we absolutely HATE Buckcherry. They were a late replacement for Nonpoint because Nonpoint took a slot on the ever prestigious Ozzfest Tour! On top of that we wanted to get a good spot for one of our favorite bands Anew Revolution who totallly loves madison and the Wisconsin crowds in general. I was completely stoked to be seeing them for a second time and their show was introd by the JJO Girls who are some pretty hot babes :D. ANR rocked and really should have played the mainstage. One day, maybe next year they'll be up on that mainstage! Their set list was great, they played classics like Done, Rise, NME, the lonely (which is one of my all time favorite ANR songs). They also played new shit like Ashes From the Stone, Broken Bones, Brick by Brick and Head Against the Wall from their sophomore release Imerica which came out in May this year. Get it you wont be dissappointed.

Last but not least we saw Godsmack which was a total thrill. I really enjoyed their set list and even though they are older dudes they still kicked ass. They opened with Cryin Like A Bitch which is their most recent hit and is a great song to kick ass to! They played all the oldies like Awake, Moon Baby, Whatever, Keep Away, Voodoo and straight out line. They played their instrumental The Oracle off, The Oracle and ripped off another new one in War and Peace. Which was incredible and packed full of energy. There was also a drum off which Godsmack is notorious for between Sully and Shannon Larkin. They ended up the show with a chilling version of Serenity and then I stand Alone to cap it all off. All and all I had a great time at BandCamp and I cant wait for next years BandCamp because both Jim and I will be 21 and can really have fun before, during and after!!!!!!!!
Up next is Taste of Madison which is happening September 5th on Capitol Square downtown Madison baby! Only band worth seeing is Nonpoint!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
